SpaceX Sends Another Group of Private Astronauts to ISS with Axiom Space Mission
SpaceX BFR has been making headlines in the space industry once again as they send another group of private astronauts to the ISS with Axiom Space Mission. After their successful Demo-2 mission last year and Crew-1 mission in November 2020, a new chapter in space exploration history is set to begin once again.
Axiom Space Mission Overview
The Axiom Space Mission is a historic space mission that aims to send private astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS) for an extended period of time. Axiom Space, a Houston-based space company, is working with SpaceX on this mission, which will fly four private astronauts to the ISS.
Dubbed as the AX-1 mission, Axiom Space has chosen three private individuals to join former NASA astronaut Michael López-Alegría on this groundbreaking space mission. The three private astronauts are Larry Connor, Mark Pathy, and Eytan Stibbe. Connor, a real estate and technology entrepreneur, will be the pilot. Pathy is the CEO of a Canadian private equity firm, and Stibbe, a former Israeli fighter pilot, is a philanthropist.
The AX-1 mission will launch from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, Florida, aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft. After launching, the spacecraft will travel for two days to dock with the International Space Station (ISS). The private astronauts will spend eight days onboard the ISS, conducting research, and performing spacewalks.
The private astronauts and former NASA astronaut López-Alegría will work with the International Space Station’s crew to conduct scientific experiments during their stay. Some of the research works that they will be conducting include medical research, zero-gravity manufacturing, and spacewalk training.
The Future of Space Tourism
This mission marks a significant milestone in the future of space tourism. It showcases how space travel can be opened up to civilians, not just to highly-trained NASA astronauts. The Axiom Space mission is just the beginning as more and more private companies are getting involved in providing space tourism experiences, and the number of space tourists is expected to increase in the coming years.
The Prospects for SpaceX
The successful launches and missions undertaken by SpaceX are cementing their position as a major player in space exploration. Not only is SpaceX revolutionizing the way space missions are conducted, but it is also making space travel much cheaper, opening up new opportunities for research, exploration and space tourism.
SpaceX and Axiom Space have partnered once again to launch the AX-1 mission, sending four private astronauts to the International Space Station for eight days of research and spacewalk training. This mission marks a significant milestone in opening up space travel and tourism to civilians, and highlights the prospects for SpaceX and its role in the future of space exploration.
